What's On Your 2010 Social Media "To Do" List?
At a recent trade show, we were discussing social media with a large private jet company. The director of marketing said that they really don’t need a social media strategy because they don’t have a whole lot to say and that their customers don’t use Facebook… AHHHH, OK THEN…………. If any folks out there are looking for a director of marketing job then we might know a company in dire need.
That said, let’s look back on 10 things that you should have implemented, or at the very least you should be planning to implement in 2010.
1. Come Up With A Social Media Strategy- It’s time to realize that your company has to evolve or die. Social media is here and will only continue to become more engrained in your life.
2. Get a Facebook Fan Page- C’mon, there’s over 350 Million users on Facebook
3. Update Your Facebook Fan Page- Doesn’t it just suck when you see a Facebook page that was updated three times in 2009??
4. Get Your Product Videos On YouTube- If you haven’t your competitor already has…
5. Get Your Twitter Account Set Up- Yes, while you’re getting used to saying Twitter and figuring out whether you twit, twitter or tweet, millions of people are signing up for Twitter
6. Update Your Twitter Account- See #3
7. Get Your Facebook App Set Up- It may cost a little bit but it’s time to separate yourself from the competition that doesn’t really know what they are doing with social media
8. Get Your Blog in Order- “Blog”, most people think it’s a geeky word but your blog should now be taking on much more focus for your website and become your social media communications hub.
9. Update Your Blog- Once again, how lame is it to go to a blog page and see the latest update from February of 2008?
10. Stay On Top Of What Is Going On- Sites like Mashable!, and many others including this blog are great resources to make sure you and your company is implementing current tools to improve brand awareness and increase sales in 2010.
