# 5 – Boise, Idaho
There is much more than a bright blue football field in Boise (nothing against the Broncos). Even though a colorful gridiron might be one of the well known things in Boise, did you know that the average age in the workforce in Boise is 33.1? Do you know what the average ages are for Twitter and Facebook users? Well, it’s 31 for Twitter and 33 for Facebook. So the next time you’re in Moxie Java, look around, because you’re probably all tweeting each other.
#4- New York City
Now we all know that there are more folks in Gotham than in any other city in the US. The question is, “are they all plugged in?” Well, with over 594,000 college students in New York City alone, New York has to get a nod. However, with so many people on the move in the city that never sleeps, how much time are you actually spending plugged into Foursquare after you actually get to your destination? No offense, but we don’t want the NYC hipsters plugged in all day and so for that reason, New York comes in at Number 4.
#3- Boston, MA
Did you ever realize that there are over 80 private colleges and universities in Boston? Over 360,000 students? Now, large Southern and Midwestern colleges are some of the most proud, but the students in Boston and their elbow patched population are not only using the social media in great excess, but they’re writing a lot of the code that the rest of us are using. Also, it gets pretty cold up in the northeastern US for a good part of the year. We expect a lot of time is spent Tweeting study notes back and forth to each other, instead of getting geared up for the next football bowl game.
#2 Palo Alto, CA
Most Facebook users don’t have 900 friends. Well, Facebook has over 900 employees based in one building in Palo Alto. Also in the city limits, there is Jigsaw, HP and Stanford. Palo Alto may have invented the term “plugged in”. With just about 60,000 people living in this brain trust, if you don’t have at least that many friends on your social networks, it might be time to head down to the Tesla factory, pick up a Roadster and move up to San Francisco or close the blinds and find more Followers.
# 1 – Atlanta, GA
If anyone knows anything about Atlanta they know there is the world’s largest airport with a long name and that the traffic is really bad. With Buckhead party district long gone, where have all the people gone? Most are “hyper plugged-in”, in this metropolis. CNN practically put Twitter on the map earlier this year during the Iranian elections, and most people will Tweet just about anything to get on Anderson Cooper’s nifty flat screen Twitter board. With companies like Facebook, Turner, Coke, EarthLink and CNN residing in Atlanta, and not to mention 25,000 people in the Twitter generation moving here each year, it’s practically the perfect storm of social media.
