Those of us in the social media arena might be in for quite a surprise as we venture outside of the major metro areas where most of us banter on about the wonders of social media. But just as any other marketing source, if the end user can’t see our social media musings, does it really matter how clever we are?

Broadband Is Still A Luxury For Some
The real trick here is to keep in mind who your target demographic is for the product or service that you sell. Why is this all so important? Well did you know that the US is only 15th in the world with internet users that are using broadband? According to Pew research, as many as 70% of rural internet users are still without broadband. Sounds almost impossible to many us, right?
Product strategy is going to be key when integrating social media strategy for many customers. If you are selling a product or service into a rural area, a huge video on YouTube probably isn’t where you should be spending your money as your customers will probably never see it anyway. The important thing is to think carefully and don’t assume that your customer has the same broadband capabilities as you do. Plan accordingly as you launch your 2010 social media campaign. Social media is great but make sure you’re using it wisely.
