Twitter: it’s fun to say and right now it’s pretty hip. Is the word “hip” hip anymore? Anyway, I digress… It’s even more fun to use when you are using Twitter to add to your overall marketing strategy. Twitter is not the “be all, end all” of business marketing. As a matter of fact, it should be a small sliver of your overall marketing and social media strategy.
Here are two tips when using Twitter to get the most out of social media strategy:
1. Build your Followers carefully.
Sure, everyone is impressed with certain celebs out there that have millions of followers. These celebs are building their brand and it’s what Twitter can do for you. However there are thousands of Twitter users that are just MLM marketers playing a numbers game. If there are enough fish in the sea, someone will bite. For most businesses getting on Twitter, the key is to find followers that are interested in what you really have to say and vice versa. Be smart about building your Follower base so that you can actually measure success at the end of the day.
2. Twitter simply expands your brand.
To take advantage of Twitter, you must be creating original content which you will link to, to engage your Followers. If you are simply re-tweeting stories all day long, eventually your follower base will get bored and move on (see The Social Media Party Of The Year). You have about a 2 seconds after your Follower clicks on your link to capture that reader. Make it good or die a slow miserable Twitter death…
These are just two ideas about using Twitter that will give you more Followers, and more importantly, make you a Follower worth following!
